
THE
AYLESFORD LIBRARY
The Carmelite Library holds c30,000 books dating back to the early
1500's to the present day. The collections cover the following
fields: Carmelite studies; spirituality; theology; church history
and a more general collection including history, geography and
travel, literature and art.
The Carmelite Collection:
An extensive multilingual collection of works by Carmelite authors
about the Carmelite Order, its history and spiritual tradition.
The collection includes works of Saints Teresa of Avila, John of
the Cross, Therese of Lisieux, Edith Stein, Blessed Titus Brandsma
and many biographical and critical works.
The Spirituality Collection:
An extensive collection
dealing with mysticism and the Christian spiritual and mystical
tradition and its links to other world spiritual traditions. Included
are biographies, collected works and studies of important figures
in Christian spirituality.
The Theology collection:
A collection of
books covering the works of major theologians including Karl Barth
and Jurgen Moltmann.
The Church History
Collection:
This collection
holds a significant number of books on the Catholic Church and its
history.
Periodicals Collection:
A substantial collection
of periodicals covering areas such as Carmelite Studies, theology,
spirituality and religious life.
Visiting
the Library
Researchers are very
welcome to visit the Library for reference purposes but should contact
The Prior in the first instance.
Visits are strictly by appointment only. Letters
